Watermain
Line Flushing
The Town Foreman wishes to advise that watermain flushing
is scheduled for:
May
12 to May 16
This
process will disturb sediment within the lines and cause discoloration
of the water. The Town recommends residents refrain from washing
whites during this period of time.
Crow
Control
The Town of Churchbridge has approved a Crow Control program
for 2008. Bruce Basken, Cedric Van Drecht and John Welygan
have been given permission by Town Council to discharge a
shotgun within the Town limits to bring the crow population
under control.
Pet
Control
Dogs are to be leashed or fenced at all times. Please carry
a bag with you if you walk your dog. Yearly dog licenses are
required. The $10 tag is available at the Town Office.
Yard
Clean-up
Town Council and the residents of Churchbridge will be pleased
if you make an effort to have your property (residential and
commercial) cleaned and presentable before June Days!
This
means raking and cutting dead weeds and grass, piling and
placing items in an orderly manner.
The
Town has the authority under the Nuisance Abatement Bylaw
No. 2005-006 to issue an "order" to those not in
compliance which will be sent to you giving you a designated
time to do the work. If the work is not done in the designated
time, the Town will complete the work and send you an invoice.
Under
the Bylaw, a nuisance means a condition of property, or a
thing, or an activity that adversely affects or may adversely
affect:
- the
saftey, health or welfare of people in the neighborhood;
- people's
use and enjoyment of their property;
- a
building in a ruinous or dilapidated state of repair;
- untidy
and insightly property.
Under
the Abatement Bylaw, if you do not pay for the work to be
done, it will be added to your taxes.
Council
wishes to commend those residents who assist in beautifying
our town.
Water
Under
our revised "Public Utility Services Policy" all
residents must pay the minimum payment when away for the winter
months or the main curb stop can be shut off (this would be
classed as a temporary shut off), resulting in a $200 hook-up
fee once the residents return.
Town
Bylaws
- ATVs - The Town of Churchbridge has a number of Bylaws restricting
the use of ATVs and Snowmobiles to the closest route out of
Town Limits. Please check with the Town Office for more information.
-
Noise: A reminder that the community also has a noise bylaw.
No person is allowed to make or continue to make any loud
noise, or unnecessary or unusual noise during the following
times:
-
Home-Based Businesses - A reminer that new licences for Home-Based
Businesses were due February 2008.
-
Building - Please obatin a building permit before you build.
It is necessary to ensure your contractor has a current 2008
town licence. Did you know: If you hire an un-licenced contractor
to do your work, you are liable for payment for their licence
fee to the Town of Churchbridge.
Town
Levy and Tax Information
Please be advised, Churchbridge Town Council has approved
a mill rate increase of one (1) mill for 2008, from 14 mills
to 15 mills.
This
increase will generate approximately $8,500, which will help
keep pace with inflation, such as fuel costs.
Town
Council felt this would be an appropriate time for an increase
as the Provincial Government has increased the Education discount
on property taxes by 2% for 2008.
For
example:
If
last year you paid $1,200 total taxes:
An increase of 1 mill =
Education discount of 2% = |
$18.00
per year (approx.)
-$8.00 per year (approx.) |
Total
increase for 2008 will be $10.00 (approx.)
If
you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the above
information or any other Town concern, please contact the
Town Office.
